Aḥmad al-Nuʿaymī; Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Ahwāzī; the Qurʾān-reciter Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī al-Ahwāzī; the ḥāfiẓ Abū Nuʿaym; Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Aḥmad al-Wādiʿī; ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Aḥmad al-Bāṭirqānī; Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Zanjawayh; Muḥammad b. Manṣūr b. Haykān al-Tustarī; ʿAlī b. ʿUmar al-Īdhajī; Abū Saʿīd al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Baḥr al-Tustarī al-Saqaṭī; and many others.
The ḥāfiẓ Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī said: “Abū Aḥmad al-ʿAskarī was one of the eminent imams famed for his command of the various sciences and his deep penetration into many fields of understanding. He was well known for the excellence of his compositions and the elegance of his writings. Among his works are: The Book of Proverbs and Maxims, The Book on Scribal Errors, The Comfort of Souls, and The Book of Deterrents and Admonitions. He lived to an advanced age and his reputation spread throughout the horizons.
Leadership in narration, literary dictation, and teaching across the province of Khuzistan ultimately rested with him; he dictated in ʿAskar, in Tustar, and in the surrounding towns.
Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī informed us—Jaʿfar b. Munīr informed us—Abū Ṭāhir, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us—Abū al-Ḥusayn b. al-Ṭayūrī reported to us—Abū Saʿīd al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī al-Saqaṭī in Basra informed us—Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Saʿīd b. Ismāʿīl b. Zayd b. Ḥakīm al-ʿAskarī dictated to us in 380 AH at Tustar …, wherein he mentioned several of his dictation sessions.” Al-Silafī said: “I possess them.”
