244 – Al-Faḍl ibn Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿĀṣim al-Tamīmī
The shaykh, musnid, and truthful narrator, Abū al-Qāsim al-Tamīmī, a Damascene known as al-Ṭarāʾifī, was a muʾadhdhin and a righteous man.
He studied the collection of Abū Mus-hir and the Wuḥāḍī compilation from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim ibn al-Rawwās. He also heard hadith from Jumāhir ibn Muḥammad al-Zamlakānī, Ibrāhīm ibn Duḥaym, Isḥāq ibn Aḥmad al-Khuzāʿī, Abū Shaybah Dāwud ibn Ibrāhīm, and many others, and he devoted himself to the study of hadith.
Among those who transmitted from him were: Tammām al-Rāzī, ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Azdī, Makkī ibn al-Ghamr, Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Ṭayyān, Abū Usāmah Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Harawī, Ṣāliḥ ibn Aḥmad al-Mayānajī, Muḥammad ibn Sulwān al-Māzinī, Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn Shawwash, Muḥammad ibn ʿAwf al-Muzanī, and many others besides.
ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Kattānī remarked, “He was trustworthy and distinguished; a number of us received hadith from him.” He died in 373 AH.
I add: He was the last of Ibn al-Rawwās’s students to pass away.
In that same year died: the Shāfiʿī shaykh Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Khayyāṭ the ascetic, in Egypt; Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-ʿUkbarī; Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Isḥāq al-Qaṣṣār in Isfahan; Bulukkīn ibn Zīrī, the ruler of the Maghrib; Abū ʿUthmān al-Maghribī, shaykh of the Sufis; Muḥammad ibn Ḥayyūyah ibn Abī Rawḍah al-Karajī; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Kaysān al-Ḥarbī; and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-Wāsiṭī, known as Ibn al-Saqqā.
