having little flesh around the anklebones—that is, the heel; this is how Simāk ibn Ḥarb explained the term to Shuʿbah.
Abu Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah said: Abbād narrated to us, from Ḥajjāj, from Simāk, from Jābir ibn Samurah describing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “Whenever I looked at him I would think, ‘His eyes are naturally kohl-lined,’ although he had applied no kohl. His shanks were slender, and he never laughed except with a gentle smile.”
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl reported through Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, from his father (may Allah be pleased with him): “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had large eyes, long lashes, a trace of redness in the whites of his eyes, and a thick beard.”
Khalid ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Taḥḥān also transmitted—from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, from his father, from his grandfather—that someone said to ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him), “Describe the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for us.” He replied, “He was fair-skinned with a rosy hue, his irises were jet-black, and his eyelashes were long.”
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālim narrated from al-Zubaydī, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib that he heard Abū Hurayrah describe the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “His forehead was broad, his eyelashes thick, his beard black, his mouth handsome. The space between his shoulders was wide. He trod with the entire soles of his feet; there was no arch in them.”
ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Thābit al-Zuhri said: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUqbah related to us, from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a slight gap between his two front teeth; whenever he spoke, it was as though light shone between them.” ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz is considered unreliable.
Al-Masʿūdī narrated from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hurmuz, from Nāfiʿ ibn
