Description of the Prophet ﷺ:
Ibrāhīm ibn Yūsuf ibn Abī Isḥāq narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that he heard al-Barāʾ say: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most handsome of all people in face and the finest in character. He was neither strikingly tall nor short.” Agreed upon through Ibrāhīm’s transmission.
Al-Bukhārī recorded: Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us, saying: Zuhayr narrated to us from Abū Isḥāq. A man asked al-Barāʾ, “Was the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ like a sword?” He replied, “No—it was like the moon.”
Isrāʾīl transmitted from Simāk, who said he heard Jābir ibn Samurah being asked by a man, “Was the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ like a sword?” He answered, “No, rather it was like the sun and the moon—round.” Muslim recorded this report.
Al-Muḥāribī and others narrated from Ashʿath, from Abū Isḥāq, from Jābir ibn Samurah: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a brilliantly moonlit night while he was wearing a red mantle. I kept looking at him and at the moon, and to my eyes he was more beautiful than the moon.”
ʿUqayl related from Ibn Shihāb that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik informed him, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: “I once greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his face was gleaming. Whenever he was pleased, his face would shine as though it were a fragment of the moon.”
