Al-Ḥākim said: “I later asked Abū al-Ḥusayn about it, and he narrated it to me.”
Al-Ḥākim also writes in his History: “Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Ḥajjājī was a devout, truthful, and firmly reliable servant of Allah. While still in the vigor of middle age he refrained from transmitting ḥadith.”
I heard Abū ʿAlī the ḥāfiẓ say, “None of our companions is sharper in understanding or sounder in transmission than Abū al-Ḥusayn.”
Al-Ḥākim adds: “He passed away on the fifth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year 368 AH, at the age of eighty-three.”
