people came to believe. What I have been granted is only a revelation that Allah has revealed to me, and therefore I hope to have the largest following on the Day of Resurrection.” Agreed upon.
I say: This is the supreme miracle—namely, the Quran. Every prophet, upon him be peace, was given a sign that ended with his death, and so only a small number followed him. The followers of our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, however, have multiplied because his greatest miracle has remained after him; down through the ages many who hear the Quran come to believe in Allah and His Messenger. For that reason he said, “I hope to have the largest following on the Day of Resurrection.”
Zāʾidah narrated from al-Mukhtār ibn Fulful, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No prophet has been believed in as I have. Among the prophets there were those whom only one man of their community believed in.” Reported by Muslim.
Jarīr narrated from Manṣūr, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās regarding Allah’s words, “Indeed, We sent it down on the Night of Decree” (97:1): he said, “The Quran was sent down in its entirety on the Night of Decree to the lowest heaven, at the station of the stars; thereafter Allah would reveal it to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, portion after portion.” The Exalted also says, “Those who disbelieve say, ‘Why was the Quran not sent down to him all at once?’ We did so that We might strengthen your heart, and We have set it forth with deliberate recitation” (25:32).
