149 – Ghundar, Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Rāzī
He narrated in Ṭabaristān from Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī and Muḥammad ibn al-Ḍurays. Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Ḥammwayh heard from him, meeting him in 330 AH. Some of his reports reach us through al-Shīrāzī’s work al-Alqāb. Their seventh is a shaykh from whom Ibn Jumayʿ transmitted. In my estimation he is identical with the second person mentioned above, and Allah knows best.
150 – al-Ghazzāl, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sahl al-Iṣbahānī
The imām, ḥadith master, and Qur’an-reciter, Abū ʿAbd Allah Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sahl ibn Makhlad al-Iṣbahānī, chief of the reciters and a man of many writings. He heard hadith from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Farqadī, ʿAbdān al-Ahwāzī, Muḥammad ibn Zabbān, ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ʿAllān, al-Qāsim ibn al-ʿAṣṣār al-Dimashqī, and several others. Those who transmitted from him include Abū Saʿd al-Mālīnī, Abū Nuʿaym, Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥārith al-Adīb, and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Aḥmad ibn Fādhawayh. Abū Nuʿaym said, “He is one whose memorization and expertise are relied upon, and he authored a number of works.” He died late in 369 AH. I add: he wrote a book on pausing and resuming recitation (al-Waqf wa-l-Ibtidāʾ).
