Ayyūb transmitted—from Abū Qilābah—from Abū Asmāʾ Thawbān—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah folded the earth for me so that I could see its eastern and western horizons, and the dominion of my community will reach as far as what was folded up for me. He granted me the two treasures, the red and the white. I asked my Lord for my community that He not destroy them by a universal famine, and that He not impose upon them an enemy from outside themselves who would overrun their heartland. My Lord said: ‘O Muhammad, once I decree a matter it is never revoked. I have granted you for your community that I will not destroy them by a universal famine, nor will I set over them an enemy from outside themselves who will overrun their heartland—even if all the peoples of the earth were to unite against them—until some of them capture one another and others kill one another.’”
He also said: “What I fear most for my community are leaders who misguide. Once the sword is loosed among my community it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection. The Hour will not arrive until tribes from my community join the polytheists and begin to worship idols. In my community there will appear thirty great liars, each claiming that he is a prophet, but I am the Seal of the Prophets—there is no prophet after me. A group from my community will always remain manifest upon the truth; those who abandon them will not harm them until Allah’s command comes.” Related by Muslim.
Yūnus and others narrated—from al-Ḥasan—from Ḥaṭṭān ibn ʿAbd Allah—from Abū Mūsā—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Before the Hour there will be al-harj.” They asked, “What is al-harj?” He replied, “Killing.” They said, “More than the killing we already do?” He said, “It is not your slaying of the polytheists; rather, it is your killing of one another.” They asked, “Will we still have our minds that day?” He said, “Most people of that time will have their reason taken away, and in their place will come worthless riffraff. Most of them will imagine they stand for something, but they stand for nothing.”
