Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Muḥtasib informed us; Nasr ibn Jarw informed us; al-Silafī informed us; and Saʿd ibn ʿAlī al-Miṣrī together with ʿAlī ibn Hibat Allāh informed us, saying:
“Ahmad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī al-Tarāsī informed us; Ahmad ibn Ṭāhir al-Mayanajī narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥannāʾī informed us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh narrated to us; Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: My father said: Anas ibn Mālik narrated to us that two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. He blessed—or invoked mercy for—one of them and left the other. A man said, ‘Messenger of Allah, you left the other one?’ He replied, ‘Because this one praised Allah, whereas that one did not’ (1), or words to that effect.”
