17 – Abu Nasr al-Tammar related to us; al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl al-Haddani narrated to us, from al-Nadr—that is, Ibn Shayban—who said: I said to Abu Salamah, meaning Ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, “Tell me something you heard from your father which he reports from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.” He answered:
“Allah has made the fasting of the month of Ramadan obligatory for you, and He has prescribed its night prayer for you. Whoever observes its fast and its night prayer in faith and in hope of reward emerges from his sins as on the day his mother bore him.”
