13 – Khalaf ibn Hisham related to us; he said: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while giving his Companions glad tidings, announced:

“A blessed month has come to you—Ramadan. Allah has made its fasting obligatory for you. During it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained. In it there is a night better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.”
