1 – The upright, trustworthy, and well-grounded shaykh, ʿIzz al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn al-Ḥaṣr ibn Shibl al-Ḥārithī, informed us. The report was read to him while I listened on the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ in the year 634 AH, at Bustān al-Samʿ in the land of al-Sahm, a locality of Bayt Lihyā in the Ghūṭa district of Damascus.
He was asked, “Did the judge, imām, and mufti of the various schools, Abū Saʿd ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn Hibat Allah ibn Abī ʿAṣrūn, convey this to you by a reading to him which you heard during the last ten nights of Ramaḍān in the year 573 AH?” He affirmed this and said, “Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Farḍī, the Qurʾān-reciter known as al-Mazrafī, narrated to us.”
Likewise, the righteous, ascetic, long-lived shaykh Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Abī ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī al-Ḥasan al-Muqayyir also informed us through my own reading to him at the beginning of the year 634 AH in the Great Mosque of Damascus. I said to him, “Did Shaykh Abū al-Karam al-Mubārak ibn al-Shahrazūrī grant you authorisation?” The two of them replied, “The noble judge Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Muhtadī narrated…” Al-Mazrafī specified that it was through direct recitation while I listened, whereas al-Shahrazūrī specified that it was by authorisation. He said:
“Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭabarī narrated to us, saying: ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us; he said: Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd al-Qurashī narrated to us ⦗24⦘; ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar al-Jushamī narrated to us; Zāʾidah ibn Abī al-Ruqqād narrated to us; he said: Ziyād al-Numayrī related to me, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
Whenever the month of Rajab began, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say:
“O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Shaʿbān, and allow us to reach Ramaḍān.”
