The first view: He must pray and then repeat the prayer. This is the school’s position (1).
The second view: He should pray naked and not repeat the prayer. This is the view of al-Shafi‘i (2) and one narration from Ahmad (3).
The third view: He should pray in it and not repeat the prayer. This was the view preferred by the two shaykhs, al-Muwaffaq and al-Majd (350), and it is the school of Malik (4).
Those who maintain that he should pray and then repeat the prayer reason that covering the private parts is obligatory; therefore, he must pray and must repeat the prayer, because he is carrying the impurity on this garment.
As for those who say that he should pray naked and not repeat the prayer, they reason that it is not permissible to wear this garment in prayer. His need to cover his private parts does not justify wearing it in prayer while it is impure; he must therefore remove it and pray naked.
Those who say that he should pray in it without repeating the prayer argue that covering oneself is obligatory, and that carrying the impurity in this case is due to necessity, since he has nothing with which to remove this impurity and no substitute for this garment. He is therefore compelled to wear it. Allah, Most High, says: “And He has not placed upon you, in”
