Some scholars are of the view that if this results from a single assault, it constitutes the loss of a single faculty, and only one full blood-money is due. However, the apparent generality of the hadith indicates otherwise, and it is to be acted upon. Accordingly, if he assaults him so that he loses all his teeth, he is liable for one hundred and sixty camels.
This ruling applies where a person’s teeth have grown for the second time. As for one whose teeth are still in their initial growth, the matter requires consideration, because these teeth—known as milk teeth—are replaced after they fall out. Once the replacement teeth have grown, liability for the first teeth ceases, and nothing is due for them. But if a person has lost the first set of teeth and the second set has then grown, their destruction entails payment of their indemnity by the offender.
