and burdensome for her. It may also open the door to suspicion being cast upon her, or to her being insulted in her husband’s presence. Thus, the apparent ruling is that if she is unable to take from his property, and it is not possible to contact the husband—or he has been contacted but sends nothing—then she has the right to annul the marriage.

If she borrows from someone and her absent husband later returns, he is compelled to repay the loan, provided that the wife took only what is customary and reasonable. Likewise, if the woman is wealthy and spends from her own wealth, she may seek reimbursement from him.
