the adhān of one in a state of minor ritual impurity. This applies when the minaret is not within the mosque. If it is within the mosque, however, then he may not remain in the mosque except while in a state of ablution. Thus, there are three cases:

(2) Al-Nasai narrated it through al-Amash, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Ibn Abi Layla, who said: “Abd Allah ibn Zayd came...” Thus, it is narrated without mentioning Muadh and is therefore mursal (a hadith with a disconnected chain); moreover, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla did not hear from Muadh. Al-Bayhaqi said: “A group narrated it with the same meaning from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abd Allah al-Masudi, except that Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla did not mention Muadh; thus, it is mursal.” Al-Sunan, 1:391. (3) Ibn al-Mundhir said in al-Ijma, p. 38: “They unanimously agreed that it is from the sunnah to face the qiblah when giving the adhan.”
