because they are not infallible. We follow the Sacred Law, and whatever results from that is not attributable to us. From this we know that the Sacred Law is entirely good. If a person considers something good, other considerations may escape him. At first glance, one might say: killing one life is better than killing two. But we say: there is a difference between our action and the action of Allah.
Accordingly, once the soul has been breathed into it, it is not permissible to remove it in a manner that does not ensure its safety and places it at risk. Therefore, some of those who have issued fatwas permitting the delivery of the fetus after the soul has been breathed into it, when the mother’s life is feared for, have erred. We say: this is a grave error. Such a view seeks to treat human beings like beasts. If an animal’s offspring were to remain in its womb and cause her death, whereas if it were removed it would die but she would not, we would remove it, because we are permitted to kill it. But human beings are not so. Pay close attention to this underlying reason, for some people—especially contemporary people—seek to make human beings comparable to animals. Indeed, matters have developed to the point that they make human beings comparable to cars: they have made human beings into sources of spare parts. One person’s kidney fails, while another person has two healthy kidneys, so they say: “Sell us one of your kidneys.” It is taken from this person and placed in that one. Glory be to Allah! Where is the dignity of human beings? Where is respect for humanity?
For this reason, we hold that under no circumstances is it lawful for anyone to donate an organ of his body, not even to his father or mother. For this means that you have disposed of yourself as the owner of a car disposes of his car. The jurists have explicitly stated in the Book of Funerals that it is prohibited to cut off an organ from a deceased person, even if he had bequeathed it. Glory be to Allah! People today care for nothing but worldly life. So we say to this
