The second verse is His saying, Glorified and Exalted is He:
“His weaning is in two years.” [Luqman 31:14]
If we subtract two years from thirty months, six months remain. Thus, the inference is composed of two proofs. Ibn Qutaybah mentioned in al-Ma'arif that the well-known caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan was born after six months. Ordinarily, however, human gestation lasts nine months.
If one upon whom Hajj is not obligatory bequeaths one thousand for Hajj to be performed on his behalf, the cost of one Hajj after another shall be paid from his one-third until it is exhausted.
His statement, “If one upon whom Hajj is not obligatory bequeaths one thousand for Hajj to be performed on his behalf, the cost of one Hajj after another shall be paid from his one-third until it is exhausted,” means: if someone upon whom Hajj is not obligatory bequeaths one thousand for Hajj to be performed on his behalf—for example, a man who has already fulfilled the obligatory Hajj, since the Hajj of one who has not performed the obligatory Hajj must be carried out, whether he made a bequest for it or not, and whether its cost exceeds one-third or falls below it—then, after fulfilling the obligatory Hajj, he makes a bequest and says, “I bequeath that Hajj be performed on my behalf with one thousand.” If we find someone who will perform Hajj on his behalf for five hundred, they say that Hajj should be performed on his behalf again, until the thousand is exhausted. This is because he said, “Hajj should be performed on my behalf with one thousand,” and did not say, “one Hajj.” Thus, Hajj is performed using all of his one-third, one Hajj after another, until it is exhausted, because he specified that the one-third be spent on Hajj.
But if he says, “I bequeath that one Hajj be performed on my behalf with one thousand,” then he has restricted it. So, if Hajj is performed on his behalf for eight hundred, should we have another Hajj performed on his behalf, or should we seek someone who will perform it on his behalf for one thousand?
This requires further detail:
If he says, “I bequeath that so-and-so perform one Hajj on my behalf for one thousand,” we give that person the full thousand and say, “Perform Hajj on his behalf,” because he designated that particular person, and his designation of him
