a church is a Christian, the endowment is valid, because—even though their religion is false—they worship Allah, Most High, by building churches and spending on them, and we recognize them in their religion. Moreover, the wealth is not ours for us to say that a Muslim’s property cannot be spent on places of polytheistic worship; rather, it is his own property. This view is not far-fetched, provided that they do not bring their dispute before us. But if they bring it before us, we must judge between them according to what Allah has revealed.

Thus, if someone endows funds for copying the Noble Quran, funds for copying the Torah, and funds for copying the Gospel, the first is valid because it is an act of devotion, whereas the second and third are invalid, because these books are corrupted in their texts and abrogated in their rulings. They are therefore not to be relied upon at all; whatever truth they contain has already been incorporated into Islamic law.
Accordingly, no one may copy, read, or distribute the Torah or the Gospel, because what Allah has sent down to us is sufficient; and because Satan flows through the son of Adam as blood flows, and he may perhaps make something in the Torah or Gospel seem attractive to him, thereby turning him away from the Quran.
For example, may a Christian establish an endowment for copying the Gospel? This requires further detail. If it is for copying and publishing it, we prevent him. But if it is for copying it solely for Christians to benefit from it, it may be said that there is no harm in it—though I have some reservation about this, since it may be distributed among people. Its danger is therefore greater than that of maintaining a church, and it may be said that it should be prohibited.
His statement, “and books of heresy,” such as books on communism or books containing innovations that constitute disbelief or sinful deviation: It is not permissible to establish an endowment for them. Thus, if a person establishes an endowment
