requires that it be done, and He does not forbid anything except that wisdom requires its avoidance.

Second: Some scholars have sought to identify a wisdom and said: Camel meat has a strong effect on the nerves, stimulating them (1). This is why modern medicine advises a nervous person not to consume too much camel meat. Wudu calms and cools the nerves, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed one to perform wudu when angry (2), in order to calm the anger.

Whether or not this is the wisdom, the wisdom lies in the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Yet if we come to know the wisdom, this is a bounty from Allah and an increase in knowledge; and if we do not know it, then we must submit and comply.

(2) Narrated by Ahmad, 4:226, and Abu Dawud, Book of Etiquette, chapter: What Is Said When Angry, no. 4784, through Urwah ibn Muhammad ibn Atiyyah al-Sa'di, from his father, from his grandfather, with the same report. A group narrated from Urwah ibn Muhammad, and Ibn Hibban deemed him trustworthy, stating: “He makes mistakes, but he was among the best of people.” Al-Thiqat, 7:287. He governed Yemen for Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz for twenty years. Ibn Kathir said: “Everyone appointed by Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz was trustworthy.” Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah, 9:219. Ibn Hibban’s remarks concerning him also indicate that he was acquainted with him. As for his father, Muhammad, al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar described him in al-Taqrib as “truthful,” while al-Dhahabi stated in al-Kashif: “He was declared trustworthy.” Thus, the chain is acceptable. It also has a corroborating report narrated by Abu Nuaym, 2:130, from Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, though its chain is weak. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah cited this hadith as evidence in Majmu al-Fatawa, 25:238.
