for him to exit ihram. We say: Remain in your state of ihram and make up for the omitted obligation by offering a sacrificial animal.
His statement, “He remains in ihram if he did not stipulate [a condition],” means that if he did stipulate a condition, he may exit ihram without having to do anything.
Issue: The ruling on making up for an interruption: The correct view is that making it up is not obligatory if the Hajj or umrah was voluntary. Moreover, Umrat al-Qada does not mean “the compensatory umrah”; rather, qada here means settlement—namely, the truce concluded between the Prophet ﷺ and Quraysh (1). The Prophet ﷺ did not require the people to make it up, because Allah has only made Hajj and umrah obligatory once in a lifetime. If we were to require him to make it up, we would be making umrah or Hajj obligatory two, three, or even more times.
