acts of worship—that is, incorporating part of one day’s act of worship into that of another day.
The view adopted by the author, may Allah have mercy on him, that it is permissible to combine the stoning on the final day is weak. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stoned on each day within its own time and said, “Learn your rites from me” (1). Moreover, he granted the shepherds a concession to stone on one day and leave the next (2).
The word “concession” indicates that those other than them have no such concession. Accordingly, the correct view is that it is not permissible to delay the stoning of the pillars until the final day, except in one case: when, for example, a person’s lodging is far away and it is difficult for him to go back and forth each day, especially during days of heat and crowding. In such a case, there is no harm in delaying the stoning until the final day and performing it all at once, for he has a stronger excuse than the shepherds whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted to combine their stoning in one day.
As for one who is able, and for whom stoning is easy because he is near the pillars,

(2) Reported by Imam Ahmad, 5:450; Abu Dawud, Book of Hajj, chapter on stoning the Jamarat, no. 1976; al-Tirmidhi, Book of Hajj, chapter concerning the concession allowing shepherds to stone on one day ..., no. 954; al-Nasai, Book of Rites, chapter on the stoning of shepherds, 5:273; and Ibn Majah, Book of Rites, chapter on delaying the stoning of the Jamarat due to an excuse, no. 3036. It was authenticated by Ibn Khuzaymah, nos. 2976 and 2977, and by Ibn Hibban, no. 3888, on the authority of Asim ibn Adiyy, may Allah be pleased with him. It was also reported by Imam Ahmad, 5:450; Abu Dawud, no. 1975; al-Tirmidhi, no. 955; al-Nasai, 5:273; and Ibn Majah, no. 3037. Ibn Khuzaymah authenticated it, no. 1979, on the authority of Asim ibn Adiyy, may Allah be pleased with him, with the wording: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, granted the camel shepherds a concession regarding staying overnight: they could stone on the Day of Sacrifice, then combine the stoning of the two days after the sacrifice and perform it on one of them.” Al-Tirmidhi said: “This hadith is hasan sahih (sound and authentic),” and stated that it is more authentic than the first wording.
