Thus, the first stage of release is attained by stoning and shaving the head or shortening the hair.
The second stage is attained by stoning, shaving the head or shortening the hair, tawaf, and sa‘i.
As for sacrificing the sacrificial animal, it has no bearing on release from ihram. A person may attain complete release even if he has not sacrificed his animal.
His statement, “Their rites are corrupted; they must continue with them and make them up the following year,” comprises three rulings. Two further rulings remain: sin, and the expiation, which is a camel.
Thus, intercourse before the first stage of release entails five consequences:
First: sin.
Second: corruption of the rites.
Third: the obligation to continue with them.
Fourth: the obligation to make them up.
Fifth: the expiation, which is a camel to be sacrificed when making up the pilgrimage.
An example of this is a man who has intercourse with his wife on the night at Muzdalifah during Hajj, knowingly and deliberately, with no excuse.
We say: Your intercourse entails five consequences:
First: sin; therefore, you must repent.
Second: corruption of the rites; thus, these rites are not considered valid.
Third: the obligation to continue with them; you must complete them, for Allah, Most High, says:
“And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah.” [al-Baqarah 2:196]
Fourth: the obligation to make it up in the following year, without delay.
Fifth: an expiation, which is a camel to be sacrificed when making up the pilgrimage.
