Shaykh al-Islam expressly stated the same ruling regarding one travelling by aeroplane: he must enter ihram when he comes parallel to the miqat. He mentioned this when discussing the sorcerers who lie to people, claiming, “The angels carry us to Makkah in a single day, and we go to Arafah in a single day.” He said: “They are mistaken, for the devils carry them over the miqat without their entering ihram there.” This is exactly analogous to travelling by aeroplane.
