Al-Sharḥ al-MumtiʿIbn al-'Uthaymin
  1. It is the view of Anas (1), Jabir (2), Ibn Umar (3), Aishah (4), and Asma (5)—five of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them.

  2. This jewelry is prepared for a person’s personal need. The Prophet ﷺ said: “No charity is due from a Muslim on his slave or his horse.” (6) Jewelry is analogous to slaves, horses, and clothing, on which no zakah is due.

  3. This jewelry is not set aside for increase, so zakah is not due on it, just as it is not due on a garment or cloak.

This view was held by Imam Ahmad, Malik, and al-Shafi‘i, may Allah have mercy on them, although they differed regarding certain issues. Broadly speaking, however, they agreed that zakah is not obligatory on jewelry prepared for use or lending.
