and the beasts, and many among mankind. Yet many have deserved punishment. And whomever Allah humiliates, none can honor. Indeed, Allah does whatever He wills.”

The second is: “O you who believe, bow down and prostrate, worship your Lord, and do good, so that you may prosper.” The author specifically mentioned that there are two in Surah al-Hajj because of the scholarly disagreement on this matter.

In Surah al-Furqan: “And when they are told, ‘Prostrate to the Most Merciful,’ they say, ‘And what is the Most Merciful? Are we to prostrate to whatever you command us?’” And it increases them in aversion.

In Surah al-Naml: “So that they do not prostrate to Allah, who brings forth what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what you conceal and what you reveal—Allah: there is no god worthy of worship but Him, Lord of the Mighty Throne.”

In Surah al-Sajdah: “Only those believe in Our verses who, when they are reminded of them, fall down in prostration and glorify the praises of their Lord, and are not arrogant.” [al-Sajdah]

In Surah Fussilat: “And among His signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon; rather, prostrate to Allah, who created them, if it is Him that you worship. But if they are arrogant, then those who are with your Lord glorify Him night and day, and they do not tire.”

In Surah al-Najm: “So prostrate to Allah and worship Him.” [al-Najm]

In Surah al-Inshiqaq: “So what is the matter with them that they do not believe?” “And when the Quran is recited to them, they do not prostrate?”

In Surah Iqra’ Bismi Rabbika: “No! Do not obey him; prostrate and draw near.”

These are fourteen prostrations: in Surah al-A‘raf, al-Ra‘d, al-Nahl, al-Isra’, Maryam, two in al-Hajj, al-Furqan, al-Naml, and Alif-Lam-Mim
