The evidence that they are the most emphatically confirmed is the Prophet’s ﷺ statement: “The two rak‘ahs of Fajr are better than this world and all that it contains.” (1) This world, from the time it was created until the Hour is established, with all its adornments of gold, silver, possessions, palaces, mounts, and so forth—the two rak‘ahs are better than this world and all that it contains, because these two rak‘ahs endure, whereas this world is passing away.
Another proof of their being the most emphatically confirmed is that the Prophet ﷺ “would not leave them, whether at home or while travelling.” (2)
These two rak‘ahs—meaning the two rak‘ahs before Fajr—have certain distinguishing features:
First: They are prescribed both in travel and at home.
Second: Their reward: they are better than this world and all that it contains.
Third: It is sunnah to perform them briefly. So perform them as briefly as you can, provided that you do not fall short in any obligatory element. This is because Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “The Prophet ﷺ would perform the two rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer so briefly that I would say: ‘Did he recite the Opening of the Book?’” (3) That is, because of how brief he made them.
