95- My father narrated to me; Mūsā ibn Dāwūd narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, who said:
While a rider was traveling between Mecca and Medina, he passed by a cemetery and saw a man emerge from his grave, ablaze with fire and bound in iron shackles. The man cried out, “Servant of Allah, sprinkle! Servant of Allah, sprinkle!” Then another man came out after him, saying, “Servant of Allah, do not sprinkle! Servant of Allah, do not sprinkle!” The rider fainted, and his mount veered off with him toward al-Mawj. When dawn came, his hair had turned completely white until it resembled the plumage of an ostrich. He informed ʿUthmān of what had happened, and ʿUthmān then forbade anyone to travel alone.
