- He said: My father recited to me:
I questioned the earth: “What have you done, once I departed,
to the faces now buried in you, sullied with dust?” ⦗91⦘
It replied: “I have turned their fragrance into a stench
that offends you after once being sweet perfume.
I have consumed pampered bodies—
bliss itself once made them glow with freshness.
Nothing remains save skulls, their former pride erased,
white and glaring, and bones eaten away.”
