- Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to me; Rustam ibn Usama passed the report on; al-Fadl ibn Muhallil—the brother of al-Mufaddal and himself one of the devoted—said:
“There was a companion of ours known for his deep humility and worship; his name was Mujīb, and he was among the handsomest of men. He kept praying until he could no longer stand, and he fasted until his complexion turned dark. Then he fell ill and died. Muhammad ibn al-Nadr al-Hārithī was a close friend of his, and Muhammad had died before him.
“After Mujīb’s death I saw Muhammad in a dream. I asked him, ‘What has become of your brother Mujīb?’ He answered, ‘He has been united with his deeds.’
“I said, ‘And that handsome face of his—what happened to it?’ He replied, ‘Allah has worn it away with the earth.’
“I asked, ‘How can that be, when you say he has been united with his deeds?’ He said, ‘My brother, do you not know that bodies decay in the graves, while deeds come to life in the Hereafter?’
“I said, ‘Do they decay until nothing of them remains, then live again on the Day of Resurrection?’ He replied, ‘Indeed—by Allah, my brother—they decay until they become scattered dust, and then they are brought back to life at the Blast faster than the blink of an eye.’”
