54. He said: Al-Hasan ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān recited to me:

We are startled whenever a funeral passes before us,
but once the bier has vanished, our hearts grow still;

like a herd that panics at a lion’s charge—
the moment he disappears, they return to grazing.
