- Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, from Jaʿfar ibn Kilāb, from Masghab, who said: “After embracing Islam Labīd composed nothing except these two verses:
We renew our grief at the death of every soul,
then hurry to forget, and lasting safety never comes.
We—never ungrateful to Allah, our Lord—
are like sacrificial camels, not knowing when their turn will arrive.”
