45. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; Yaḥyā ibn Basṭām narrated to me; Ḥātim ibn Sulaymān al-Ṭāʾī reported:

“I was present with ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Zayd at the funeral of Ḥawshab. When the burial was finished he said, ‘May Allah have mercy on you, Abū Bishr; you were ever on guard against a day such as this. May Allah have mercy on you, Abū Bishr; you were deeply anxious about death. By Allah, if I can help it, these legs of mine shall not carry me on after your passing.’ He then rolled up his sleeves and strove with renewed determination.”
