261 – Muḥammad said: Yaḥyā narrated to me; Ibn Isḥāq conveyed it from Ibn Luhayʿa, who related it on the authority of a man from Alexandria:

“When the Nile withdrew, it exposed a huge rock on which an inscription in Greek appeared. A man came, read it, and wept. People asked him, ‘What makes you cry?’ He replied, ‘By Allah, it is what is written there that moves me to tears.’ They said, ‘And what does it say?’ He answered, ‘Do good and then forget it; but when you commit evil, remember it. Whoever follows that course will soon ⦗191⦘ find lasting peace.’”
