Chapter: Admonition at the Funeral and Taking Heed Therefrom
- ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salih al-Azdi narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-Bukhari transmitted it; from a man of Basra; from al-Khalil ibn Murrah; from Zayd ibn Aslam; from ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When a deceased person is placed upon his bier and carried away, no more than three steps are taken before he speaks words that are heard by whomever Allah wills—⦗62⦘ all except the two weighty orders, jinn and humankind. He says: ‘O my brothers, O bearers of my coffin, let not this world deceive you as it deceived me, nor let the passage of time toy with you as it toyed with me. I have left everything I owned behind for my heirs, while the Reckoner will call me to account on the Day of Resurrection, and you now accompany me and bid me farewell.’”
