251 – It has reached me that the following was written upon the dome of a grave in Syria:

O twin graves, my yearning for you is endless,
and I have exhausted my tears in mourning over you.

You have enclosed my two beloved, away from me—so set them free;
only yesterday they descended into your double hollows.

My beloved were my companions, my comfort; but now
your mute stillness startles me as the long decay wears on.

Peace, the Lord’s good pleasure, repose, mercy,
and the Almighty’s forgiveness be upon those who dwell within you both.
