249 – He said: I heard one of our companions relate that the following was read on a grave in Basra:

Though once you were a diversion for the eyes, a joy to behold,
You have now become an affliction to the soundest of hearts.
What soothes my longing is the knowledge that your appointed day will overtake me as well,
And that tomorrow I too shall be numbered among the people of those graves.
