240 – ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, reporting from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Sakkarī, who said: “It reached me that the following was found engraved on a grave-stone:

A heedless soul, already summoned by death,
Had laid up no provisions for the journey.
If his bounty did not endure beforehand,
Death has stripped him of every blessing.”
