236 – Al-Hasan ibn Jahur narrated to me; al-Haytham transmitted it; Ibn ʿAyyāsh reported; one of the people of Najran told me:
“We went out to dig a grave for one of our great dignitaries in a place we call ‘the King’s Cemetery.’ There we uncovered a sealed iron coffin. When we opened it, we discovered an old man whose head and beard were as large as an ostrich’s. His body was wasted away, yet he was wrapped in a fine mantle. At his head lay a tablet that read:
‘I am Junaydah ibn al-Junayd of the clan of Dhi Marān. I lived six hundred years, and now I have reached the state you behold. Fie upon this world and those who long for it, and woe to whoever it entices and deceives.’”
