222 – Abū Bakr told me, and he said: Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿĪsā al-ʿAnbarī narrated, “I was in al-Jabbān, the cemetery of Basra, when rain began to fall. I turned aside to a small domed structure for shelter, only to find that it had been built over a grave, and on it was written:

You will one day turn away from remembering me and forget the bond we shared;
After I am gone, a dear companion will pass the time with another dear companion.

When at last the span of my life is cut short,
The lament of all the weeping women will be of little avail.”
