220 – Ibrāhīm ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us. Yaḥyā ibn Yūnus in Shiraz narrated to me; he said, “I read the following inscription on a grave in Shiraz:
The loved ones have gone after long years of closeness;
the place where they once visited is far— they left you and moved on.
They abandoned you when, in a strange land, you were at your poorest;
no friendly company did they give, no anguish did they relieve.
Thus the decree was executed, and you became the occupant of a pit;
your dear companions only bit their fingers in regret and then dispersed.”
