- Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Jarawī narrated to me; Suḥaym ibn Maymūn—one of al-Layth’s close companions—reported, on the authority of al-Layth ibn Saʿd, who said:
A man was sleeping in a cemetery when he heard a mysterious voice proclaim:
“May God gladden the eyes of the two beloved ones
and bless your arrival among us, O Umaymah!”
A second voice replied, “And what good will that do her when my father is angry with her?”
At daybreak the man saw a grave being dug and someone standing beside it. He asked about the grave and recounted what he had heard. The man answered, “These two are the graves of my daughters, and this new one is for Umaymah, their mother. I had been displeased with her, but today I shall soothe their eyes by forgiving her.” He then forgave her, took charge of the burial, and laid her to rest.
