212 – Muḥammad told me: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ṭawīl narrated to me; a man in Basra said, “I read on a grave in Ahwaz:
Death has driven me from the house where I once held sway;
now dust is my couch, amid its crumbling layers.
Servant of Allah, if my grave saddens you,
then fear the unforeseen turns of time.
Such is the end of the people of this world—even when they live long,
beguiled by the endless postponement of tomorrow.
I seek Allah’s forgiveness for my deliberate sins and for my anger,
and I ask Him for success on the Day when all are held to account.”
