210 – Muḥammad narrated to me; Rūḥ ibn Salamah al-ʿĀbid narrated to us; Shuraybīl ibn Ghālib al-Najrānī, reporting from his father, said:

A man in Bahrain died and directed that these lines be inscribed upon his gate. I myself read them on the door of his palace after his death:

I pursued a life whose comforts I had envied,
And dwelt amid provisions rich and wide;
Yet—by the Lord of the Sacred House—before I could even alight,
I was stripped of kinsfolk, both near and far.
