194 – ʿĀʾid also said, and Ibn al-Mubārak would recite:

It is as though you were departing all by yourself,
Clothed in winding-sheets, the shroud drawn tight,
Then lodged in a barren wilderness—
A grave whose neighbors seldom visit one another. ⦗157⦘

And when the life-vein is cut, the very earth will raise for you
A house whose residents you must now abide beside;
There it soon turns to crumbling dust in a loathed domain,
While from the realm of the living its numbers still swell.
