184 – Abu Jaʿfar al-Qurashi recited to me:

Will you turn a blind eye to this world though you can see,
and remain ignorant of its realities though you are well informed?

Each morning you build it up as though you were to live forever,
yet tomorrow you will march away from all that you have built.

Had I possessed in it what you so plainly recognize,
my past experience would already have sounded a warning.

Tell me, have your eyes ever alighted on a thing
that did not proclaim that abiding is brief?

So go on and do whatever deed you choose—
the dwellings of those who once lived are graves.
