182 – Muḥammad narrated to me; he said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥarb al-Makkī narrated to us; he said:

Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʿUmarī, the ascetic worshipper, arrived in our midst, so we gathered around him, and the notables of Mecca came as well. He lifted his head, and when he saw the palaces encircling the Kaʿbah, he cried out at the top of his voice:

“O owners of lofty palaces, remember the darkness of the desolate graves! O people of luxury and pleasure, remember the worms, the pus, and the disintegration of bodies in the earth!”

Then his eyes were overcome with tears, and he rose and departed.
