177 – He said: “My father—may Allah have mercy on him—recited to me; he said: Abū al-Samḥ al-Ṭāʾī recited:

When the friends who loved me have taken their leave
and departed, their palms still filmed with dust,

I shall remain, no loyal companion beside me,
in a land where I visit no one and am visited by none.

That is real separation, not a lover’s temporary absence—
month after month must pass before our dwellings meet again.”
