Concerning the one who called out from the cemetery with an admonition
- Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; Dāwūd ibn al-Muḥabbar transmitted; Kathīr ibn Kathīr ibn Hāshim al-Sulamī reported from his father:
A man from the clan married a young woman and, to mark the occasion, organized an evening of merrymaking. Their homes stood alongside the graveyard. By Allah, while they were absorbed in their festivities that night, they suddenly heard a strange, alarming voice. They grew silent and listened intently, when a caller from among the graves proclaimed:
O people reveling in pleasures that will never last—
Death will surely bring all pastimes and games to an end.
How many have we seen exultant in their delight,
Only to find him, come evening, alone, estranged from his family.
By Allah, no more than three days had passed after that before the newly-wed youth died.
