112 – Abu Ishaq al-Riyahi related to us, saying: Bakkar ibn Saqir narrated, “I was present at the funeral of Abu Rajaʾ al-ʿAttaridi, and al-Farazdaq was walking with al-Hasan. The people started saying, ‘Look at the best of mankind,’ referring to al-Hasan, and, ‘Look at the worst of mankind,’ referring to al-Farazdaq. Al-Hasan heard their words and said, ‘Abu Firas, what are the people saying?’ He replied, ‘They are saying that you are the best of people, and that I am the worst.’ Al-Hasan said, ‘I am not the best of people, nor are you the worst.’
When they reached the grave, al-Hasan sat on its edge and al-Farazdaq sat with him. He asked, ‘What have you prepared for this day?’ He answered, ‘⦗109⦘ The testimony that there is no deity but Allah, which I have upheld for eighty years.’ Al-Hasan then gestured with his hand like this and counted off eighty.”
